About Exmoor Attractions

Why this portal exists

Exmoor Attractions was created by Heriniaina Olivà Razafimanantsoa, a travel publisher and SEO specialist who has spent years documenting nature destinations — from the rainforests and highlands of Madagascar to the moorlands of south-west England. The project began with a simple observation: most Exmoor content online is written by people who have never walked the coast path, and it repeats the same five facts.

Our answer is depth. Every guide here is structured around what a traveller actually needs at the moment of decision: which route, which village, which season, which budget, which light. We publish four content clusters:

1. Exmoor Travel Guide — geolocated attraction guides: Valley of the Rocks, Dunster, Dunkery Beacon, wildlife, dark skies.
2. Nature & Adventure Travel UK — national parks, trails and wild escapes.
3. Accommodations & Booking — where to stay in Exmoor.
4. Global Eco-Tourism — sustainable travel beyond Britain.

How we research

• Routes are walked, driven or cycled by the editorial team or verified local contributors.
• Prices and opening times are checked each season and dated on the page.
• Where we rely on third-party information, we say so openly.
• Reader corrections are welcome and actioned — send them through our contact form.

How we source

Every factual claim on this site is traceable. Where we state a figure, a designation, a protected status or a conservation finding, we name the body that stands behind it and link to the original. The Sources and further reading panel at the foot of each guide lists them.

We work with the organisations that hold the primary record, not with summaries of them:

• National Trust for property facts, opening information and conservation status on its sites.
• Dark Sky International for International Dark Sky Reserve designations and light-pollution data.
• Historic England for scheduled monuments, listed buildings and conservation areas.
• Ordnance Survey for mapping, rights of way and terrain.
• IUCN Red List for species threat status, including the conservation standing of lemurs.
• UNESCO World Heritage Centre for designated sites, including Madagascar's World Heritage areas.
• KNMI for seasonal climate data referenced in our Madagascar guide.

Three rules follow from this, and we will not bend them for commercial reasons:

• No unsourced figures. If we cannot attribute a number to a source, we do not publish it.
• No source laundering. A commercial blog reproducing a statistic is not a source; we go to the body that published the original.
• No AI-generated filler. Automation assists research and fact-checking. It does not write the guides.

Photographs are individually credited and licensed. Every image credit on this site names the photographer, the source archive and the licence, in the image itself — not in a footnote. Where a photograph is reused, the licence requires the credit to travel with it, so we keep it attached to the file.

If you believe something here is wrong, we treat that as a priority. Write to us through the contact form; corrections are made and, where material, noted on the page.

Editorial policy

• Independence: no advertiser, sponsor or affiliate partner influences our recommendations or rankings.
• Transparency: commercial placements are labelled; affiliate links are disclosed on every page where they appear.
• Accuracy: prices, opening times and travel details are dated and reviewed at least annually.
• Corrections: verified errors are corrected quickly and noted on the page when material.
• No AI-generated filler: content is written and edited for human usefulness; automation is used only for research and checking.

Some links to accommodation, activity providers and travel services are affiliate links: if you book through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This funds the site and keeps our guides free. Sponsored articles and partner placements are always labelled as such at the top of the page.

Privacy at a glance

• We collect only the information you send us through our forms (name, email, topic and message) to answer your request.
• We do not sell personal data.
• We use Google Analytics with all storage consent denied by default, so no analytics cookies or advertising identifiers are set unless you actively opt in. Cookieless, aggregated page counts are still recorded.
• You can request deletion of your data at any time through our contact form.

What we collect, and why

Exmoor Attractions is a small editorial site, so the amount of data we hold is deliberately small. There are only two ways information reaches us.

1. Information you send us

When you use the contact form we receive the name, email address, topic and message you enter. Form submissions are stored by Netlify, the company that hosts this site, and are used solely to reply to you. We keep them only as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up conversation.

2. Analytics

We use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-38VG26R5Z9) to see which guides readers find useful and where our pages need work. It is configured in Google Consent Mode with all storage consent set to denied by default.

This means that unless you actively opt in, no analytics cookies are set, no advertising identifiers are created, and no visitor-level identifier is written to storage. Google Analytics will still count your visit as a cookieless, aggregated pageview that cannot be linked to you or to any previous visit. That data is used in aggregate only, never sold, shared or used to build advertising profiles.

If you do opt in, Google Analytics additionally collects: pages viewed and the referring site; approximate location derived from your IP address at country or city level, with the last portion of the address discarded before storage; and your browser type, device category and screen resolution.

Google Analytics does not tell us your name, email address or any other directly identifying detail, and we never ask it to collect any.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising, tracking or social-media cookies of its own. Because analytics consent is denied by default, Google Analytics does not set its _ga and _ga_* cookies unless you opt in. The only cookie otherwise in use is the one used by Netlify's spam filter on the contact form. We do not run ads, affiliate trackers, Facebook pixels or embedded social media widgets.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted. To exercise any of these, use our contact form and write "privacy request" in the message. We respond within 30 days.

Because our analytics data is stored by Google rather than by us, a request to delete it may also need to be sent to Google. We will tell you the exact steps if that applies to your request.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means a booking provider may place a cookie of its own if you choose to follow the link and book. We do not see or control what they collect, and following such a link is always your choice.
